Jessica Colas

I started ceramics in 2018 while pregnant with my third child and experiencing a strong desire to put my hands in the mud. I eventually stumbled onto Greenwich House Pottery in NYC and loved it. Since then I’ve focussed on handbuilding, starting with the groggy clays for stability and making my way to finnicky porcelain and back again.

My art is inspired by nature, expression and functionality. It evolves in tandem with my views on life and what we’re doing here on planet earth.

Antler Philosophy

The name for you are beautiful ceramics comes from my first holotropic breathwork session done on Valentine’s Day 2020. In my mind’s eye, I saw the elegance and beauty of a deer, gracefully making it’s way through life, utterly unconcerned about it’s size, proportions, fur, length of antlers or lack of. I glimpsed the futility of our appearance obsessed society and the true beauty that is innate in all of us. “We’re so beautiful and we don’t even know it!” Hence the name was born.
